August 30, 2011

Good morning fam,

Got a recipe for you for the weekend (by the way I lost 1/2 pound from what I gained - I think this heat is messing with me, or it's the fact that I am addicted to watermelon).

I know how family holidays are around the grill in the summer.   Here you go:

Bulldog Wings (my husband and I named them yesterday)

I bought just the drummetes, you could use the whole wing.
I marinated them in a large baggie in Texas Pete Wing Sauce for 6 hours (Phase 2 people, while there is no sugar, there is a thickening agent.   But, most of the sauce runs off on the grill.  So, I think this once you're ok)
Hot grill, down to low as I placed the wings on the grill.
Sprinkle with Montreal Steak seasoning, thyme and rosemary.   Wait about 5 minutes, turn and repeat the seasoning of the other side.   Leave the grill on low and open until the wings start to dry and get some color.  Turn about every 6-8 min.   Then, close the top and continue to let cook on low while they crisp.  Continue to turn regularly until they are as crispy as you like.  This takes about 30-40 min as you don't want to burn the wings, but you want them to be colorful and crispy.   YUM!

Crissy sent a recipe last week for the oven, but it was for Phase 3-4.   The above recipe could be used with all phases (Phase 2 for a special treat) as I added no oil or butter - even to the grill.

Jenny's lemon icy's would be good on Monday.  I am planning that with my fam.  Or, you could make gallons of sweet tea with xylitol, and none of your fam would know it.   I had a dinner party Friday night and I combined blueberries, strawberries and raspberries, with xylitol, to make a fruit shortcake.  I ate only fruit, but served the others on a shortbread with whipped creme.  I didn't use the THICK, SUGARED red sauce for strawberry shortcake.  The kids LOVED IT!   And NOT one person knew.  :)

I have forgotten to share something with you that my niece, Heather, brought to my attention last week.  Or, maybe I did share......  :)      Coconut water - not coconut milk - TONS of minerals, more potassium than 52 bananas (in just one small container) and lots of electrolytes.   If you are bothered by leg cramps, this will help.   I have checked several places, (Fresh Market, Publix, Kroger) and many are carrying this now.  READ the back - some have sugar, and some don't.  The ones without sugar COUNT towards your water goal for the day and very helpful to your legs.

I have always read and heard that sugar puts fat on our body.   Yesterday, I found out scientifically why.  More on that this week.

Choose life and eat to live,
PK
