As we approach Valentine's Day (this is the last blog this week as I have family in for the weekend) I am reminded of three kinds of love: phileo, eros, and agape. Agape, the "top of the pyramid" love, is wrapped around the concept of sacrifice. (John 3:16) It's a love that gives EVEN to those who have wronged you. It's a love that places other's first, is patient, doesn't speak when it can. YIKES! Get the picture? And we should ALL strive to follow the example of God as he gave the best gift that he had when he knew we didn't deserve it. Can you think of someone who has wronged you RIGHT NOW? And, can you purpose in your heart that you are going to give one of your children, in death, so that rotten person can have life???? I am sooo glad I am not God and MORE glad that he LOVES me enough to offer AGAPE love to me. Are you?
In thinking about agape love, sacrificial love, I want to point that towards us for a moment. What? Sacrificial love is about others.......yes, but I find we make sacrifices for lots of people and sometimes NEVER for ourselves. I want to challenge each of us to LOVE our health enough to sacrifice for it. I know that chugging water gets to be a nuisance, and having to chop veggies for the week every Monday is a pain, and weighing when I don't want to is burdensome, but if I don't LOVE me enough to make some sacrificial choices, who will? My husband cannot drink water and it flush the fat out of my body; my daughter cannot weigh for me each morning; my friends cannot grocery shop and cook healthy for me. I do not feel it's wrong to extend some AGAPE love towards our health. This morning I want to encourage you to be mindful of healthy sacrifices you make FOR YOU today that offer your body LIFE!
If only one - great. Celebrate that. If it's a great AGAPE day filled with sacrifices that bring life - YEA! Challenge: while you are sacrificing for yourself.......place other's first, be patient, and don't speak when you can.
Agape, friends! PK
Talk Monday. :)
